At the start the sound used in the trailer shows that the characters are excited and happy to show that the characters are convinced that they are going on holiday and to set the story and give away a bit of the storyline or plot to audiences watching. Creepy and fast pace music then starts to kick in later on in the trailer, to start revealing the genre of horror and to start showing that the characters are getting closer to danger. Diegetic sounds is then used such as screams and conversations which are between the characters to show that they are scared in order to enforce the events and what is happening to them is scary, this is used as a voice over all throughout most of the ending of the trailer. More sounds such as things breaking and intense scary music, things closing and opening, metal sounds are used to further convey the storyline and sounds that create the horror effect and enforce the genre for the audience.
How is editing used in the film trailer?
Continuity editing is used effectively at the start to show the characters are doing usual everyday things and are living a normal life. Fade to blacks then start to be used to start showing the passing of time within the trailer, and start introducing the storyline and events of the film. We then start seeing fast paced fade to blacks which suggest that the characters are getting closer and closer to danger, also to emphasise how scary the movie will start getting and to leave the viewer hanging as all action happens fast therefore the viewer is not able to catch all what is happening. This is the main technique which gets the viewer interested and attracted the audience to go and watch the film, this technique of fast paced fade to blacks also adds to the horror atmosphere the trailer is trying to create. Again continuity editing is used towards the end of the trailer to show the continuity of the storyline and events.
