Filming (Rolfe street train station)

On the 9th of february we went out to film the transport scene, of a train passing. For this scene I was responsible for filming high angle and birds eye view shots, in order for us to get transpot shots similar to our research. I place the tripod and camera at a high angle on the staircase of the train station in order for me to be able to film a high angle shot of the train.

Filming house scene's(Asmaa's house)

On the 5th of January while out to film the house scenes of the trailer, I was responsible for filming the close-ups of the characters to catch emotion in the characters as this was essential for the house scene to see the reactions of the characters at in this part of the trailer. I was also resposible for filming long shots and extreme long shots of the shots, where I showed the characters walking in and discussing why Lauran has called them to call over.

For the magazine front cover I went out to take pictures in front of a plain background and took only close-ups of the characters face to show emotions and shock. This is so the picture can use real media conventions and also appeal to my target audience. I used a hand covered with a leather glove to cover the characters mouth, this is to keep the same them in the horror trailer which is ensuring that our killer/murderer is anonymous all throughout our products so we can create tension and  suspense for characters who want to watch the film.

The audience feedback I received suggested I should make the photo darker and add effects which darken the photo in order for it to fit with the genre of horror better. For this reason I used photoshop to darken the photo through the brightness and contrast in order for it to fit the horror genre well.

Gaining feedback from our target audience helps us construct ad improve our trailer. Due to some of the feedback we got we decided to fix some of our footage, such as adjusting the brightness and contrast of the scene of our characters walking in as our audience stated they found it hard to see. The trailer needs to be appealing to the audience, therefore we are always seeking audience feedback.

Filming Horror Scenes(outside house)

On the 30th of January I went out to film with one of our actors, which is the character Amira, to film some of the horror scenes we need to include at the end of the trailer. On this day I focused on filming close ups of the character while running to the iscolated phone box, I also filmed other shots such as long shots and mid shots of the character in the same scene where she is running to the iscolated phone box and attempting to call someone. I also filmed some other scenes such as the character running round the corner of an empty road and the character hiding from the anonymous killer. For these scenes I focused especially on close ups of the characters face this is to show the expressions of the character clearly.

Filming horror scenes(cellar scene)

On the 27th of January me and Sofia went to film in her house in the underground cellar and around the outside of her house near an empty road. On this date for the cellar scene I was focusing on filming midshots of the characters talking about the picture Lauran found and what they will do. A mid-shot was essential for this scene as we are trying to show that the horror events will soon start happening to the characters and therefore need to show all the characters expressions clearly.  

Recording voice overs (radio station)

Before starting to go out and film we booked out the school radio station for us to recod the voiceovers of the characters that we will include in the horror trailer. We insured that the script for the voice overs for our actors to know exactly what they were saying. I was responsible for recording some parts of the voice over and ensuring our actors are saying the lines with emotions in order for them to sound realistic when included and used over certain footage and music in our trailer. Before starting to record me and sofia had to make sure we learnt the right techniques for recording and how to use the radio station effectively.

 

Props & costume

Before We started going out to film we had to plan and sort out costume and props that we would need for filming some of the horror scenes, We did this by identifying exactly what the scenes would look like therefore chose the right make-up and props for the scenes and bought them before hand in order for us to be able to make the horror scenes seem more realistic. For instance we used blood as make-up in most of our horror scenes on the characters in order for them to look like they are in danger and have already started getting attacked.

Costume preparation for characters

Before filming the funeral scene me and Sofia had to make sure the actresses were dressed appropriately for the funeral scene and had the right costume we requested, in order for the scene to look professional. This was black formal clothing which can be worn at a funeral. However me and Sofia had to ensure we do the hair and make-up for our characters in order for them to have the look we expected for the funeral scene. I was responsible for applying make-up on the characters, I ensured the make-up was very natural as the characters are going to a funeral and therefore should have natural colour foundation and blusher.
Old woman make-up preparation

On the day we went out to film in Smethwick old church and graveyards. I was responsible for applying make-up to one of our characters which will be the old woman in our horror trailer. I had to ensure I applied white/pale foundation to give the effect of a weird looking old woman in the trailer. I also applied dark colour make up around her eyes in order to give the effect of eye bags. Which will show that the women is very  weird and tired looking this adds to the effect we want to create for the audience.  

Booking Venue's

From our research into our target audience, the responses we got about what they find frightening/scary, suggested locations such as church, graveyards and empty and scary looking houses. For this reason we included such things in our storyline and built our horror trailer ideas on the responses we got from the audience questionnaires.We also wanted to make our trailer look realistic and professional, as we saw from our research into real horror trailers these locations were very common and were used a lot in real horror trailers therefore we decided to use such locations.  Due to the fact that the locations we have picked wouldn't be easily accessible for students or filming, we had to research locations around us that are similar to the ones we would see in horror movies/trailers, we then had to email the locations to see if we are able to gain permission to film at times when these locations are not in use by others. Below are some of the things we did in order to gain permission to film at certain places.

OAK HOUSE MUSEUM (scary/haunted looking house)

While searching for locations we found an old and haunted looking house which would be very suitable for our horror film/trailer as we wanted to have a haunted looking house. We then emailed the manager of the oak house museum to ask for permission to film. As a result we gained permission to film in the museum from the manager at a time when the museum is closed to the general public. 

When we were given permission to film in the oak house museum we were asked to fill out some forms before our filming date, we also had to provide a risk assessment for the filming crew and our schools liability insurance. Below are the copies of the things we had to provide.

ST.PETER'S CHURCH (scary, dark looking church and graveyards)
For some of our scary scenes when the characters appear to be running away or getting tortured we wanted to include scenes in a graveyard and a dark church as from our audience responses we established that these usually feature in real horror films and would scare the audience and give a professional effect to the trailer. We searched on the internet ad went out to see some churches to see if we will find one that looks like what the audience would expect to see in a horror film/trailer. While searching we found St.peters church which we then emailed to gain permission to film in and around the premises as it also had a graveyard outside the church which was ideal for our filming ideas.

We gained approval from the vicar and were given a suitable date we would be able to film in the church while it was empty.

ST.AUGUSTINE'S CHURCH (funeral scenes)
Due to the fact we will have short funeral scenes at the start of our trailer to introduce our story, in order to make the funeral look realistic we have to film our characters in the church, mourning and making speeches about the deceased in order for the trailer to be professional and realistic. We decided to film the funeral scenes in a separate church from the one we filmed the horror scenes in, therefore we emailed a different church to see if we can gain permission to film.

Planning ( research into target audience) & Practice trailer

TARGET AUDIENCE
Our target audience are young male and female  teenagers from the age of 13 to 20. We chose to have both gender teenagers because we found that they tend to enjoy watching horror films. Once we established who our target audience are, we went out and completed some research on their interests regarding horror trailers so that we can make our own horror trailer as effective as possible. We conducted research into our target audience in order for us to establish what aspects should be included in a horror trailer if we wanted it to be successful and create the right horror effect for the audience. We made questionnaires asking the target audience to establish certain things in horror trailers that frightened them or things they would expect to find in a horror trailer. From these questionnaires we based our main idea of the horror film trailer in order for out to be relevant to the target audience it is aimed at.

Choosing a font for our title (Links between trailer and ancillary products) 
An important aspect within all of our media texts is the font of our film title. This is important as it links and  represents our film in all our different media texts. We researched different fonts on-line and finally came to a decision to use the font 'Misproject' from Photoshop as our title font in all our media texts. This text has then been represented to represent our trailer and storyline within all the the products we created, in order for all our advertising products such as the trailer, magazine cover and film poster to have clear links and representation.

Practice trailer 

Before starting to create our horror trailer, we made a short horror practice trailer, this is so we can learn techniques of filming and test out different techniques with the camera, in order for us to be confident when we are filming and creating our final horror trailer. Making this short trailer allowed us to start using the camera and editing software final cut confidently. 

Storyline and storyboard

Original Storyline

Amira, Lauran and Kieran are devastated when they find out they have lost one of their very close friends, Rio.  Rio is found dead in a river near an isolated house; police claim it was an accidedental death and look no further in to the case.  The friends in a state of grief also believe the death was accidental until the day of Rio’s funeral after his burial Lauran is approached by an agitated, ill looking older woman. This women claim that “Rio was murdered! It was not an accident”, she then hands Lauran a piece of paper with an address and tells her “This is all I can do, I have to go!” Lauran   goes back and tells her friends of the event   and is unsure of what to think, however Kieran believes there is more behind the old women’s accusations. Kieran, Lauran and Amira then go on to visit the address.  Once they arrive at the location, they begin to wonder if there is even any link between the old house and their friend.  Slowly, as they enter the address events show that the house is not safe and is rather scary and unusual.  Will they be able to solve the mystery or will they become part of it themselves?

                 

Updated storyline

Our story is going to begin with the funeral of a teenage boy named Rio.  Rio was a close friend of Amira, Lauran and Kiran.  After Rio’s burial, Lauran is approached by an old woman, which claims that “Rio’s death was not accidental, he was actually murdered”. Lauran is then handed a piece of paper with an address on it.  Lauran does not know what to think and therefore texts her friends telling them she must see them urgently. They then come meet her at her house and she tells them about this woman and her accusations.  Kieran tells them the only way they can find out is by going out to that house. A few days go by, and on that Friday they all set out to the house using a train as their form of travel.  Once they reach they cannot find any taxis or any form of transport and therefore have to walk a long journey. Once they reach the house, they see a huge unusual looking house. Once entering the house they all go looking around in separate rooms.  Lauren is walking around the house until she see’s an image of herself and her three friends with Rio’s face crossed out on the floor. She then fears herself and her friend’s lives and runs to find her friends and tell them "the old woman was right", and they have to get out of the place. The three friends then try and escape the house however they cannot get away from the murderers wrath and sadly after days of trying to escape both Amira and Kieran are killed.  Lauran however manages to escape however is so taunted by the experience that she is left ill and is in such an extreme condition that she must be taken care of at all times.
